Welcome to my blog! Whether you’re new or already a familiar face, I’m so glad to have you here. Let’s get into it! 2-4 weeks before a wedding, we go through all the details of the schedule and I make a shot list custom to my couple’s special day. Here’s what I tell my wedding clients to expect when they get ready- plus a shot list of photos that we plan for. Every wedding day is different, so sometimes only some of my photo ideas are needed, or they have additional memories they want documented. I also tell clients that we have to be flexible with the day. When joyful, unplanned moments happen- we’ll photograph the fun! If the schedule changes or the weather is bad, we’ll adjust and find the next best way to document the day!
I hope what I suggest here gives you insight into your day and helps you plan a wonderful preparation time! With that, let’s get started (if you’re just here for the shot list- skip to the end)!
I love this part of the day. During this time, I focus on details, candids, and some classic posed photos. There’s a lot going on! Having plenty of time is so important to ensure that no one feels rushed and it doesn’t get too chaotic. This is especially true when bridesmaids are getting ready as well. I often recommend that brides start getting hair and make-up 5 hours before the wedding ceremony. It seems like a lot of time, but believe me- the time flies!
It’s really important to make sure we can clear any clutter out of the way so that we can take the best photos possible! I also really enjoy having each bridesmaid or family member helping the bride with each accessory. It allows us to get some candid moments with each special person!
I always recommend that clients put special items like wedding invitations, save the dates, jewelry, perfume, shoes, and other accessories in a little box. That way I can access these special items without interrupting the bride as she gets ready. No one wants to be searching for a bracelet or earrings while getting their make-up done! These little accessories and tokens may seem insignificant, but years later you will be so happy you had these documented!
I usually have my second shooter work with the groom and groomsmen, focusing on details and candids. It’s easy for the groomsmen’s area to get a bit messy, so I always recommend that the second shooter clears any clutter that might be distracting. I also like the second shooter to take portraits of the groom once he’s completely dressed. If possible, it’s great to get photos of the groom with each groomsman as well. If there isn’t time for this, we can also get those shots later in the day too!
Let’s get into the list of photos I plan to take with my clients! Again, each day is different and I customize every shot list to the needs of my couples!
Hopefully my thoughts and shot list have been helpful for your own wedding planning journey. If you’d like to work with me please feel free to reach out- Click here!
